Abstract
Genetic mechanisms of photosynthetic cell adaptation to light have been studied on the model of chlorophyll-less, accumulating protoporphinin mutants of green alga Chlamydomonas (C.) reinhardtii and their revertants. The mutant phenotype is due to the suppression of the activity of the chlorophyll biosynthesis (CB) enzyme the magnesium chelatase (MCh). The genes controlling MCh in C. reinhardtii: CHLH, LTS3, SUP3 and SUP-1 were detected. The structural gene CHLH encodes the H-subunit of MCh. Products of other genes regulate its activity.
