Abstract
Distribution of abscisic acid (ABA) in anthers of male-fertile and male-sterile lines of petunia was analyzed by immunohistochemical method. Development of fertile male gametophyte was accompanied by monotonous elevation of ABA level in reproductive cells. Abortion of microsporocytes in the meiosis prophase in the sterile line accompanied by two-fold elevation in ABA level in reproductive cells. We conclude that at the meiosis stage ABA is involved in the PCD of microsporocytes.
