Abstract
Red beet root vacuolar membrane was studied with the aid of AFM. The conditions for drying isolated vacuole membranes were chosen, and the images of the vacuolar membrane surfaces were obtained. Some heterogeneity in the membrane surface topography was revealed. It is assumed that small (on the order of 30-40 nm in diameter) hillocks (upwellings) on the surface of the membrane may represent raft structures of tonoplast, which are more densely packed. The depressions in the membrane surface relief of the form of nonspecific stress pores with diameter of 1-2 µm were also revealed.
