The Laboratory conducts research in the following areas: 1) study of molecular mechanisms of redox-regulation of genetic and physiological functions of mitochondria and chloroplasts; 2) study of ways of DNA importing into mitochondria in in organello and in vivo systems; 3) development of approaches for the genetic transformation of plant mitochondria by introducing target genes in in vivo system. In the course of research, the phenomenon of natural competence of mitochondria to DNA uptake has been discovered.
